Overview
These demands center on the Emerson College Police Department (ECPD) and its involvement with the College's community of students. The demands break down to the following:
Demand 1
Create and distribute a resource list throughout Emerson with alternatives to ECPD.

Specific Actions
Work specifically with Counseling & Psychological Services (ECAPS), Emerson Wellness Center(EWC), and Housing and Residential Education (HRE) to reinforce and promote staff and resources that provide alternatives to contacting ECPD. Create an alternative hotline.
Dates/Timeframe Updates
- Staff of Housing & Residence Life held meetings with Resident Advisors during the month of April 2021 regarding the availability of alternative resources to contacting ECPD, including ECAPS’ after-hours service telephone crisis service, which allows students to talk to a licensed therapist on evenings and weekends, and an on-call physician that provides tele-health services on evenings and weekends.
- Assessment planned in Fall 2021 to determine effectiveness of initial efforts.
Demand 2
RAs be given alternatives to calling ECPD during incidents in residence halls.

Work specifically with ECAPS, CHW, and HRE to reinforce and promote staff and resources that provide alternatives to contacting ECPD, with specific focus on RA training. Create alternative hotline.
Dates/Timeframe Updates
- Resource cards have been distributed and posted in residential areas with contact information for RA on duty and hours, RD of building, instructions for work order, contact information for ECAPS, CHW, Healing & Advocacy, Campus Life, and ECPD Emergency/Non-Emergency.
- Assessment planned in Fall 2021 to determine effectiveness of initial efforts.
Demand 3
A public apology from ECPD regarding the Blue Lives Matter flag that was visible in their office for years.
