Mary Kovaleski Byrnes is the author of So Long the Sky (Platypus Press, 2018). She is the co-founder of EmersonWRITES, a free creative writing program at Emerson for Boston Public School students. 

Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies, including Guernica, Salamander, the Four Way Review, the Guernica, the Boston Globe, Best of Kore Press, Best of the Net, and elsewhere. Her pedagogy on service learning and writing has been presented at national conferences, including the Conference on College Composition and Communication and AWP. 

Mary's teaching and research interests include poetry, memoir, rhetoric and composition, global Englishes and the commodification of English in Eastern Europe, and contemporary American women-identifying writers. She is a reader for Ploughshares, the advisor for Em Magazine, and edits the student-produced publications SPINE and STRETCH.
