An accomplished and versatile nonfiction trade book editor and literary consultant with unique experience in digital publishing, Phillip Rappaport works with writers, agents and publishers to write or rewrite, shape or reshape book proposals and manuscripts. He has worked at Bantam Dell, McClelland & Stewart and the Free Press. His nonfiction experience is wide-ranging, covering topics as diverse as psychology and child behavior, memoir and biography, popular science and the environment, health, lifestyle and Judaica. I’ve edited numerous acclaimed and bestselling writers. As publisher at Open Road Media, he developed expertise in all facets of digital publishing, including production and marketing. Since 2018 he's branched into publishing education as affiliated faculty in undergraduate (CCNY) and master’s degree (Emerson College) programs.
A native Washingtonian, after graduating from McGill University in Montreal, he attended French-language immersion programs at Aix-Marseille Université and Université de Montréal. His first job in the book business was at Montreal’s LGBTQ bookstore. He was an editorial fellow at the Jerusalem International Book Fair, and for several years served as the fair’s US liaison. He lives in Harlem, New York.
