Announcement
Boston, MA —
Emerson College’s radio station WERS announced today that George Knight will join the station as co-host of its morning show, starting August 1, 2013.
Knight has been a broadcast personality in Boston for more than two decades, and is well known for hosting programs at 92.9 WBOS-FM. He will mentor students at WERS and co-host its morning program, weekdays from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. While professional staff have overseen management and operations at WERS since 1949, Knight will be the station’s first professional on-air staff member.
WERS General Manager Jack Casey says professional staff and students work side-by-side at the station, developing programs, producing news, and organizing community events. “Collaboration is a long tradition at WERS, and we believe it’s the best way serve our students and our listeners,” said Casey. “We’re delighted to welcome George Knight to the WERS team. He is passionate about music, is a fan of the station’s music format, and brings a wealth of experience that will greatly benefit those students who want to become part of the radio industry,” he said.
Knight’s broadcasting career includes hosting programs at 102.5 WKLB-FM; 106.7 WMJX-FM; and 92.9 WBOS-FM, where among his positions, he co-hosted the morning drive show with longtime broadcaster Robin Young and continues to host the station’s weekend program Sunday Morning Over Easy. He also has appeared on New England Cable News, providing music reviews and concert news, and serving as on-camera music expert during special events such as the Michael Jackson memorial. Most recently, Knight has been the evening show host and station voice at 91.9 WUMB-FM, an NPR affiliate based at UMass Boston.
“When I was a kid, I was introduced to a lot of the music that I love by sitting next to my radio for hours at night listening to 88.9, so it feels like things have come full circle for me,” said Knight. “I'm excited to co-host the morning show alongside students, and to have the chance to share some of the wisdom I've picked up over my 20 years on Boston radio. My guess is the students will have a thing or two to teach me too.”
A native of Weston, Knight is a graduate of UMass Amherst. He is also a musician and has played guitar, bass, and keyboards for local bands. He performs around Boston with his current band Pablo Palooza. He is also a sought–after voice artist, and was the lead character voice for a Stanford University video that won a 2013 Communicator Award.
