Applicants for the BFA in Comedic Arts are required to submit one creative sample that showcases the applicant’s comedic voice/talent in the areas of writing, performance, or production. Performance/production samples should be between 3 and 5 minutes; writing samples should be the first 5–10 pages. Applicants should clearly articulate their role(s) in the creative sample.
Examples of creative samples include:
- Stand-up
- Sketch
- Short film
- Podcast
- Webisode
- Audio or sound clip
- Screenplay or teleplay
- Short story
Your creative sample will be reviewed by a team of Comedic Arts faculty. We are not looking for perfectly polished comedians; once you get here, we’ll use our expertise to hone your skills. We are looking for seeds of comedic talent—something that shows us you’re funny.
Because our BFA in Comedic Arts degree is both highly specialized and the only one of its kind in the country, admission to our program is quite competitive. Your creative sample is an important part of your application, and we strongly encourage you to take some time with it. Before submitting your sample, consider showing it to several people whose opinions you trust for feedback.
Samples can be submitted though the Application Portal after the application has been submitted.
