The Emerson Police Department provides the following services:
Safety Escorts
The Emerson College Police Department provides safety escorts to members of the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, upon request. Specifically, the ECPD provides students, faculty, and staff with walking or motor vehicle escort between locations on campus as well as to the Park Street MBTA Station, to the Washington Street Orange Line MBTA Station and the Arlington Street MBTA Station and points in between. To request a safety escort please call the ECPD at 617-824-8555.
Lost and Found
It shall be the policy of the Emerson College Police Department to account for, safeguard and secure lost property turned in to the Department and to make every reasonable effort to return lost property to its rightful owner. This policy applies only to items found on college grounds, i.e. any property or facility that is owned, leased, or operated by Emerson College.
All lost property that has not been returned to their rightful owner will be kept for a period of 60 days. After that, the property will be either destroyed or donated to a local charity.
Any person who may have lost property is encouraged to go to Lost and Found and see if your property has been turned into the ECPD, or come to ECPD (114 Boylston Street) and see if your property has been turned in. ECPD will make an attempt to identify the owner of all property that is turned over to ECPD. If the owner can be identified, ECPD will contact the owner.
The ECPD will not accept perishable items, water bottles, items that present a sanitation risk (soiled), swimwear, under garments, flip flops, ear plugs, ear buds, broken items or incomplete clothing items (such as a single glove).
Fingerprinting
The Emerson College Police Department provides fingerprinting services for members of the Emerson Community free of charge. Fingerprint Services are by appointment ONLY. To make an appointment community members should email Detective Robert Miller at robert_miller2 [at] emerson.edu (robert_miller2[at]emerson[dot]edu) or Deputy Chief Robert Cassagrande at robert_casagrande [at] emerson.edu (robert_casagrande[at]emerson[dot]edu). Community members wanting to get fingerprinted must have a government issued form of identification such as a driver’s license or passport and your Emerson College Identification Card.
Safety Workshops
The Emerson College Police Department conducts trainings and workshops on a wide variety of safety and security related subjects including, but not limited to theft prevention and data security measures alcohol and drug awareness, and bystander intervention measures that can effectively reduce the likelihood that others in the community will be assaulted.
The College has assigned a police officer to serve as a liaison to every residence hall on campus in an
effort to better familiarize students with the Police Department’s officers and services, and to enhance communications between students and the Department.
CPR/AED Certification
Emerson College is proud to be a certified HEARTsafe community recognized by the American Red Cross.
ECPD, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, offer students, staff, and faculty cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) courses that will provide the community with lifelong skills that may one day help you save a life. This hands on, instructor-led course will teach participants how to respond in a cardiac and breathing emergency, and will include the use of AEDs.
All CPR/AED classes are 4 hours in duration and there is a $20.00 administrative processing fee required by the American Red Cross for certification card processing. Participants should bring a check made out to Emerson College and in the remarks field note CPR/AED.

Non-Resident Student Drivers
Massachusetts state law requires that full-time Emerson students who operate a motor vehicle that is registered in another state, but which remains in the Commonwealth for a period exceeding 30 days between September 1 of any year and August 31 of the following year, must file an RMV Nonresident Driver Statement with the Boston Police Department.
This Statement, which must be signed under penalties of perjury, calls for the following information:
- Registration number and make of the motor vehicle and state or county of registration
- Name and local and out of state addresses of the owner
- Names and addresses of all insurers providing liability insurance covering the vehicle legal residence of the non-resident student and his/her residence while attending college
- Name and address of the college which he or she is attending
Emerson students can obtain the Nonresident Driver Statement application online or at the Emerson College Police Department office, located at 211 Tremont Street.
Emerson students who are required to complete this application should submit their completed applications to the Boston Police Department at:

After receiving a completed Nonresident Driver Statement application from an Emerson student, the Boston Police Department will send a copy of the completed form to Emerson College’s Police Department, and Emerson’s Police Department will then issue that student a special Commonwealth of Massachusetts nonresident student driver decal, which the student should promptly affix to the upper-center portion of the front windshield of his or her vehicle.
Massachusetts General Law chapter 90, section 3 specifically requires that Emerson share the following warning notice with all students who are not Massachusetts residents:
“It is unlawful for a non-resident student to fail to file a nonresident driver statement with the police department located in the same city or town as the school or college attended, in accordance with section 3 of chapter 90 of the Massachusetts general laws. Failure to file such a statement is punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.00.”
Self-Defense Programs
Everyone has the right to be safe on and off campus. No one deserves to be harmed and only the person who commits a harmful act is responsible for that behavior. Self-defense training is an opportunity to learn more about how to reduce your risks of harm for yourself and the community. Self-defense for men and women offer training designed to teach basic self-defense techniques. These courses are offered because members of our community have expressed an interest.
Participants will be trained to raise their awareness of aggressive behavior, to recognize how aggressive behavior impacts lives, and to take steps to avoid aggressive behavior when possible. Unfortunately, in a small number of incidents, physical confrontations may be unavoidable.
The goal of the self-defense program is to provide realistic self-defense options, regardless of their level of physical conditioning. Students, staff and faculty at all levels of ability, age, experience, and strength are encouraged to participate.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Don't have cash? Forgot your debit card in your dorm room? That's okay. Just swipe your student ID and pay. Touch screen option: All you need to do is hit the "Student ID" option and select Emerson from the list of icons. Pay as you would with a credit card.
Emerson ID Card
Students should carry their Emerson College ID cards at all times and produce them when requested, particularly to get access to the residence halls (if they are student residents) and to evening classes. Operation ID
Operation Identification is a nationally recognized theft prevention program. The program consists of identifying a student's property by engraving the property with traceable ownership information as well as marking the property by affixing it with an identification sticker. This sticker will warn potential thieves that the valuables are marked for identification. This will make the student’s property difficult to pawn or convert to personal use.
Emerson College Medication Disposal Program
Unused or expired medications can pose a risk to our community and the environment. They can also be misused, leading to serious illness, complications, overdose, and even the loss of life.
As part of the Jed Campus Initiative and Foundation (JED), a multi-year program designed to support and enhance the emotional health and well-being of our students, Emerson College, in collaboration with the Rite Aid Foundation has received and installed a Medication Disposal Drop Box.
This Drop Box will help all community members anonymously dispose of unused, expired, and unwanted prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications in a free, safe, environmentally friendly manner.
The Medication Disposal Drop Box is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year in the hallway of 114 Boylston Street, next to the ATM machine. Any member of the community, Emerson students, staff, faculty, administration, alumni, parents and families and guests of the college wishing to responsibly dispose of their unwanted medications can do so safely by placing them into this receptacle.
The Medication Disposal Drop Box is not to be used for illegal drugs, needles, lotion or liquids, inhalers, aerosol cans, thermometers and hydrogen peroxide. Any medication placed into the Drop Box will not be able to be retrieved. If you prefer to drop your items in alternate locations, the City of Boston has a list of city wide medication drop off sites.

Items disposed in this disposal box at the Emerson College Boston campus are collected twice per year and the contents will never be inventoried.
