The Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs has several different leadership opportunities for students and their families to give back to the Emerson community.
The types of leadership positions are as follows:
Orientation Leaders
Orientation Leaders (OLs) are a team of 100+ undergraduate student leaders who guide and mentor a group of new students to Emerson College, the city of Boston, and the staff, faculty and support resources at the College. OLs are one of the first students incoming students connect with in their Emerson journey and serve as a main point of contact in their transition. The OL team is made up of rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from every department at the College and are charged with peer mentorship, facilitation of orientation programming, and collaboration with other OLs and student leaders. The OL position starts two weeks prior to the fall semester with a week-long Orientation Leader training experience where they reflect on their leadership style and strengths, learn about the College and its resources, and join an amazing community of student leaders. After training, OLs assist in the facilitation of New Student Orientation for undergraduate students the week before classes begin. OLs have the option of also assisting with Winter Orientation in January.
Orientation Coordinators
The Undergraduate New Student Orientation program is led by a team of six paraprofessional undergraduate student leaders called Orientation Coordinators (OCs). The OCs have all served as Orientation Leaders (OLs) for at least one year and make up the Orientation Core Staff. OCs are charged with recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising the OLs; planning orientation programs, events, and logistics; managing a digital orientation platform or social media account; serving on the orientation committee, and collaborating with staff, faculty, and outside vendors to execute programs. OCs work for almost one year - from November of the previous academic year through the beginning of the fall semester - and assist with both Winter Orientation and Fall Orientation for new undergraduate students. Applications to be on Core Staff are available to current OLs in October each year for the following Orientation cycle.
Off-Campus Community Ambassadors
Community Ambassadors (CAs) are resources for students searching for off-campus housing in the Boston area. CAs also provide support and assistance to enhance the off-campus student experience by offering programs and services that advocate for commuter needs, educate on off-campus living, and increase off-campus student engagement within the college.
Family Ambassadors
Family Ambassadors are current parents and family members of current Emerson students who serve as resources to new parents and families as they transition to becoming an Emerson parent. Family Ambassadors assist with answering questions and providing advice on the Parents and Families of Newly Accepted Students Facebook Page.
