EmersonWRITES is a free college pathway creative writing workshop for students in grades 8-12 in Boston and nearby towns. Courses are typically in person at Emerson's Boston campus or online from October to December, with a Showcase and book launch in January.
Courses are taught by graduate students in Emerson's MFA/MA program in Writing and Publishing who have been trained to teach college-level writing through Emerson’s award-winning Writing Studies Program.
EmersonWRITES is guided by the principle that writing is essential to intellectual engagement, self-representation, and access to opportunity. Courses are structured to build writing and critical thinking skills, and guide students toward negotiating a range of writing genres and rhetorical situations. EmersonWRITES seeks to foster individual voice, engagement with the world, and empowerment through the written word.
