At the annual Gold Key Honor Society induction ceremony, three awards are granted to Emerson College faculty members:
- the Helaine and Stanley Miller Award for Outstanding Teaching,
- the Alan L. Stanzler Award for Excellence in Teaching, and
- the Emerson College Alumni Award for Teaching Innovation.
Teaching Awards
2025 Recipient - Maria Corrigan, Visual and Media Arts
The Helaine and Stanley Miller Award for Outstanding Teaching is awarded to a full-time Emerson faculty member who consistently receives high Teacher/Course Evaluation ratings. Winners of this award display high academic standards established by the faculty members. The award winner receives a stipend of $1,500. The award is made possible through the generosity of Helaine Miller ’55.
2025 Recipient - Randy Harrison, Marketing Communication
The Alan L. Stanzler Award for Excellence in Teaching is awarded to an affiliated faculty member who consistently receives high Teacher/Course Evaluation ratings. Winners of this award display high academic standards established by the faculty members. The award winner receives a stipend of $1,000. Donor Alan L. Stanzler is a former Trustee and Overseer of the College. The award was created in honor of his father, Harold Stanzler, who for many years was a part-time faculty member at the University of Rhode Island.
2025 Recipient - Thomas Vogel, Marketing Communication
The Emerson College Alumni Award for Teaching Innovation is awarded to faculty members who engage students in active learning in and out of the classroom; employ effective, new, inclusive teaching methods and/or utilizing technology to enhance learning; and provide a stimulating environment that encourages students to challenge the intellectual and creative status quo and discover new ways to accomplish their goals.
Selection Process for all Awards
- The Provost invites nominations from faculty and students.
- The Deans’ Council reviews applications and make recommendations to the donors and student Gold Key officers.
- The Provost receives feedback from donors and Gold Key officers, identifying award winners.
- The Provost notifies award winners and the Emerson College community.
